'Soft Clip' Guitar Fx VST Plugin

This effect introduces non-linearity into the transfer function so that as the input signal gets larger, the output signal gets larger by less and less. In fact, it cannot exceed +/- the clip level. At low levels the output follows the input closely, but as it gets larger, although the output gets closer to the clip level, it can never exceed it.

It adds harmonics and produces a 'warm' tone if not used to excess, and is similar to the transfer function of a valve amplifier.

The controls adjust the shape of the transfer function - how sharp the corner is between linearity and rounding off at the clip level, the asymmetry for positive and negative going signals (asymmetry produces even harmonics) and the overall clip level.

The graph shown the actual transfer function adjusted by the controls below. The clip level - the bottom slider - is in dB relative to +/-1.0 (the VST maximum signal level), so in this case it is limited to a value 1.9dB below +/-1.0, or approximately +/- 0.8.
